Serving 30+ Massachusetts Communities Since 2000
Custom decks built with Trex, TimberTech, and Deckorators for Massachusetts homeowners. No annual staining. No rot. No splinters. Just a deck that looks the same in year ten as it did the day we finished it.
Wood decks in Massachusetts have a short life. The combination of summer humidity, winter ice, spring rain, and constant UV exposure breaks wood down faster than most homeowners expect. Within 3 to 5 years, a pressure-treated deck starts showing cracks, splinters, warping, and discoloration.Maintaining it means staining or sealing every 1 to 2 years, replacing rotted boards, and dealing with mold and mildew on the underside.
Composite decking eliminates nearly all of that. The material does not rot, does not splinter, does not warp, and does not need staining or sealing. It holds its color, stays cool underfoot compared to older composite products, and resists mold, mildew, and insect damage. The upfront cost is higher than pressure-treated wood, but over 10 to 15 years the total cost of ownership is lower because maintenance is essentially zero.
J. Gudiel Landscape builds custom composite decks using Trex, TimberTech, and Deckorators. These are not generic composite boards from a big-box store. They are commercial-grade products with manufacturer warranties ranging from 25 years to lifetime coverage depending on the product line. We handle everything from design and permitting through framing, decking installation, railings, lighting, and finishing.
The most recognized name in composite decking. Trex offers multiple product lines at different price points, from the entry-level Enhance series to the premium Transcend Lineage collection. All Trex products are made from 95% recycled materials, resist fading and staining, and come with a 25-year limited residential warranty. Trex boards feature a protective shell on all four sides that guards against moisture penetration, which matters in a climate where decks sit under snow for months.
The decking material gets all the attention, but the structure underneath is what determines whether the deck is still solid and level ten years from now. Every J. Gudiel deck is built with:
Pressure-treated lumber sized and spaced to manufacturer specifications for the decking product being installed. Joist spacing, beam sizing, and post footings are engineered for the specific deck dimensions, load requirements, and local code. We do not use undersized framing to cut costs.
Deck posts sit on concrete footings set below the frost line (48 inches in Massachusetts). This prevents frost heave from lifting and shifting the deck structure. We pull permits and schedule inspections to confirm compliance.
Most composite decking is installed with hidden fastener systems (clips between boards rather than face screws). This gives a clean surface with no visible screw heads and allows the boards to expand and contract naturally with temperature changes.
Adequate airflow underneath the deck prevents moisture buildup on the underside of the boards and within the framing. We maintain proper clearances between the deck surface and the ground, especially on ground-level builds where ventilation is more restricted.
Where the deck attaches to the house, we install proper ledger board flashing to prevent water intrusion into the home's structure. This is one of the most common points of failure on decks built by inexperienced contractors, and it can cause serious damage to the home if done incorrectly.
We build composite decks for homeowners across MetroWest and Greater Boston.
