Serving 30+ Massachusetts Communities Since 2000
Patios, retaining walls, walkways, driveways, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and stone steps for Massachusetts homes and businesses. Unilock Authorized Contractor. Built on bases that last through New England winters.
A patio is not just pavers on dirt. A retaining wall is not just stacked blocks. The visible surface is maybe 20% of what makes a hardscape project last. The other 80% is underground: base depth, compaction, drainage grading, geotextile fabric, edge restraint. Get those wrong and the surface starts shifting, settling, and cracking within a few seasons. Get them right and the same patio looks and functions the same way twenty years later.
J. Gudiel Landscape has been building hardscapes across Massachusetts since 2000. In that time we have also repaired a lot of work done by other contractors, patios with 3 inches of base that should have had 8, retaining walls with no drainage behind them, walkways with no edge restraint that spread apart after one winter. Those repairs taught us as much as our own installations did.
Every hardscape project we build follows a specific standard: 6 to 8 inches of compacted crushed gravel base (not the 4 inches that cuts costs but fails in this climate), geotextile fabric where soil conditions require it, proper compaction in lifts, polymeric sand joints that actually bind, and edge restraint on every exposed border. We hold Unilock Authorized Contractor certification, which means these are not just our preferences. They are the installation standards we are certified to deliver.
We work with several premium paver manufacturers (Techo-Bloc, Cambridge, Nicolock), but Unilock is our primary partner and the brand we recommend most often for residential hardscape projects in Massachusetts.
Unilock pavers are manufactured with a process that produces a denser, more durable surface than standard concrete pavers. The color holds longer, the surface stays slip-resistant, and the structural integrity does not degrade the way lower-cost products do after repeated freeze-thaw exposure.
As a Unilock Authorized Contractor, J. Gudiel Landscape has completed training in Unilock’s installation methods and meets their standards for base preparation, joint stabilization, and edge restraint. This certification allows us to offer qualifying projects the Unilock Peace of Mind Workmanship Guarantee, which covers both the product and the installation.
Not every project requires Unilock. We recommend the right product for the right application. But when a homeowner asks what we would put on our own patio, the answer is usually Unilock.
We design and build hardscapes for homeowners and businesses across Massachusetts.
J. Gudiel Landscape is one of a limited number of Unilock Authorized Contractors in Massachusetts. Our team has completed specialized training in paver installation techniques and meets Unilock’s standards for base preparation, drainage, joint stabilization, and edge restraint.
For homeowners, this means three things: access to Unilock’s full premium product line (including options not available through standard installers), installation that follows manufacturer specifications (which is what makes your patio survive 25 Massachusetts winters, not just 5), and eligibility for Unilock’s extended warranty program.
